Microdermabrasion- Small or Large Body Area

Microdermabrasion is not just for the face! Our bodies get scars and pigmentation and lose elasticity just like our face. Skin conditions like Keratosis Pilaris and Folliculitis on the body benefit from exfoliation. Speak to one of our trained estheticians to see if microdermabrasion is the right option for you! A large area would include back treatments, arms, and legs. Your service provider can help you determine how much time is needed and whether it is a small or large area.

Microdermabrasion is a very safe exfoliation technique resulting in very minimal downtime. If it is your first time, we always suggest laying low the day and night of, in case of redness. The most common side effects are:

  1. Redness: After the procedure, your skin may appear slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. This redness typically subsides within a few hours to a day.
  2. Sensitivity: Your skin may feel somewhat sensitive or tender after microdermabrasion. This sensitivity is usually short-lived and should resolve within a day or so.
  3. Dryness: Some individuals may experience dryness or peeling of the skin in the days following the treatment. It’s essential to keep your skin well-moisturized during this time.
  4. Minor Swelling: You may notice slight swelling, particularly around the treated area. This typically goes away within a day.
  5. Bruising: In rare cases, microdermabrasion can cause minor bruising, especially if the skin is particularly sensitive or thin. Bruises, if they occur, tend to be minimal and temporary.
  6. Itching: Some people may experience mild itching after the procedure. Avoid scratching to prevent potential skin irritation.
  7. Sun Sensitivity: Your skin may be more sensitive to the sun immediately after microdermabrasion. It’s important to use sunscreen and protect your skin from sun exposure.

It is always best to consult with your trained esthetician so they can do a proper assessment of your skin and health. Common conditions that should avoid microdermabrasion include: eczema, rosacea, skin sensitivity, sunburn, recent chemical peel, cancer in the area, pregnancy and active acne.
