Emsella Chair Screening Call

We want to ensure that Emsella is right for you. Our partners at Leading Edge Physiotherapy will call you to answer your questions, explain the procedure fully and to screen you for contraindications. Sometimes a full pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment is best before starting the Emsella chair treatments. We understand that this process is a big commitment and we want to set you up for success.

Emsella Chair Treatment

$300
45 mins

Emsella is ideal for individuals experiencing urinary incontinence, pelvic floor weakness, or intimate wellness concerns including sexual health. It is suitable for women and men. Emsella is a Health Canada-approved, non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles—equivalent to doing over 11,000 Kegels in one 28-minute session. We allow time for questions and set-up, therefore plan for 45 minutes.

6 Treatment Emsella Package

The science is very strong to follow the full 6 treatment protocol, and we encourage our clients to maximize the potential of this treatment. Therefore if you purchase a package of 6 treatments up front, you will receive a $100 gift card to use or give!

We want to ensure your treatments are successful therefore you cannot book online until you have had a screening all with our partner physiotherapists from Leading Edge Physiotherapy’s Pelvic Health team. Please call us directly at 780-761-0511 to arrange your screening or email emsella@rgspa.ca. Follow-up visits can be arranged directly with the spa.

Emsella is a Health Canada-approved, non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles—equivalent to doing over 11,000 Kegels in one 28-minute session. The science is that the electromagnetic energy targets the motor neurons, causing a depolarization to make the muscles have super maximal sustained contractions- meaning it makes your muscles fire stronger and longer and deeper than you can do just on your own. This causes hypertrophy and hyperplasia in the muscles, meaning growth in size and numbers of the cells in the affected soft tissue and muscles of the pelvic floor.

Emsella is ideal for individuals experiencing urinary incontinence, pelvic floor weakness, or intimate wellness concerns including sexual health. It is suitable for women and men.

Each Emsella session is $300. Private benefits do not cover the cost of this treatment and there are no refunds so it is important to make sure it is the right treatment for you. Occasionally, some health spending accounts can be used, but you should check your own coverage. This is a spa service and is NOT billed as physiotherapy.

Yes. All clients must first complete a screening call with a pelvic health physiotherapist from Leading Edge Physiotherapy to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you, followed by a thorough intake form and contraindication screening.

The science-based recommendation is 6 sessions, usually scheduled twice per week over three weeks. Additional or maintenance sessions may be recommended based on your goals or the severity of your symptoms.

No. Emsella is non-invasive and pain-free. You remain fully clothed in loose clothing and sit upright during the session. There is no downtime and minimal side effects. Some clients report mild irritation or muscle soreness like after a workout. Similarly, a temporary increase in symptoms may occur due to muscle fatigue.

Emsella is not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or have electronic implants (such as pacemakers) or metal in or near the pelvic region. A full contraindication checklist will be reviewed during your screening and before your first session to ensure Emsella is safe for you.You must update your care providers if anything changes, including getting a copper IUD implant, a hip replacement, suspected pregnancy, or a urinary tract infection.

Many clients notice improvement in urinary control, core strength, sexual health and pelvic floor function within just a few sessions.Treatments are not guaranteed, but following through the recommended treatment protocol fully really helps. Significant improvements are typically seen after completing the recommended 6 sessions, however additional sessions may be necessary for more chronic or complex cases. This may mean additional visits, or follow-up every six to 12 months for some people. We recommend tracking your symptoms with an outcome measure called the ICIQ-SF to help measure your success.

Sorry, but it is. This is a medical treatment that requires proper protocol and attention to the details in order for it to work optimally. Because the chair is a magnet, you cannot work on your phone, laptop, or even wear your Smart Watch while you are on the chair. This means reading or zen time. But no, you cannot nap, as you should be alert and monitoring your treatment, meaning making sure it is contracting where it should. There is an optimal upright seated position that should be held throughout the 28 minute session to ensure proper stimulus. If you are not centered properly on the chair and sitting at the right angle, you will get contractions in your gluteal or adductor muscles instead of your pelvic floor.

Because loose clothing is best, you may be asked to change out of your clothes into a spa gown depending on what you arrive in. No tight jeans or leggings should be worn and nothing with metal decorations, so put away your Bedazzler. (If you got that joke you are probably over 45!)
